Hailing originally from south west Scotland, Nik achieved his PhD degree from the Pharmacy Department of the University of Manchester (UK) majoring in bioanalytical chemistry. The subsequent years have seen him develop an active research interest in the area of clinical metabolomics. By using hyphenated mass spectrometry and associated signal processing and chemometric statistics he has led and contributed to several projects in which a deeper understanding of biological function, disease progression and biomarker candidates have been identified.
