Chronic Disease Epidemiology
Research
The major research focus of the CDE division is directed toward
describing and understanding the etiology of important diseases
and disorders. Among ongoing research projects:
- Biomarkers of nutrient status for epidemiologic research
- Effects of caffeine, electromagnetic fields, passive cigarette smoke,
and alcohol exposure in pregnancy on fetal outcomes
- Molecular and genetic cancer epidemiology
- Established Populations for the Epidemiologic Study of the Elderly
(EPESE) in New Haven
- Psychosocial predictors of survival after myocardial infarction,
hip fracture, and stroke
- Longitudinal studies of successful aging
- Cancer epidemiology: ongoing studies on breast cancer, ovarian cancer,
pancreatic cancer, endometrial cancer and other cancers
- Cancer screening
- Racial/ethnic disparities in health and health behaviors
- Studies utilizing the Connecticut Tumor Registry
- Longitudinal rates, trends, and outcomes of vascular disease in
the elderly
- Gender and racial disparities in vascular disease in the elderly
- Risk factors for ovarian and breast cancer
- Perinatal AIDS transmission
- Meta-analysis of randomized trials
- Genetic and environmental risk factors for asthma development and
severity in early infancy
- Pregnancy and preeclampsia in pregnancy
