Creed/Patton/Steele Scholarship
In 2003, following a fund-raising campaign led by alumni, Yale endowed the Creed/Patton/Steele Scholarship, which is the first endowed fund in support of underrepresented minority students at the Yale School of Public Health. The scholarship was established to recognize the importance of diversity in graduate and professional education, acknowledge the contributions of underrepresented minorities to the field of public health, and honor the achievements of Cortlandt Van Rensselaer Creed, M.D. 1857, the first African American graduate of the Yale School of Medicine, Curtis L. Patton, Ph.D., Professor of Epidemiology, who has devoted much of his career to the advancement of minority initiatives, and Robert E. Steele, ’71 M.P.H., ’75 Ph.D., who conceived of the scholarship and is its principal benefactor.
YSPH extends congratulations to everyone on the campaign committee as well as the many donors who made this scholarship a reality. For any inquiries regarding this scholarship, please contact the Office of Development at (203) 785-4000.
