HIV Virus
HIV, viral hepatitis, TB, and other infectious diseases in the context of drug abuse and injection constitute a syndemic, i.e., the concentration of diseases or health conditions in which the interaction magnifies the negative health effects of the individual diseases or conditions. Research in the Division of the Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases explores the risk factors, transmission patterns, environmental and structural influences, and impact of prevention measures on aspects of the syndemic in domestic and international settings.
