Professor Guan's research interests are in developing new spatial statistics techniques for the analysis of spatial data that often arise in biological, epidemiological and public health studies. For theoretical and methodological research, he is developing new statistical tools that can be used to model inhomogeneous spatial point patterns. For applications in public health research, he is currently involved in two projects. Working with Professor Durland Fish’s group, Professor Guan is developing spatial models for Lyme disease risks in the United States by using satellite imagery data and locally collected environmental data. Working with Professor Brian Leaderer’s group, Professor Guan is studying the relationship between daily level of air pollutants and daily respiratory symptoms of asthmatic children.
