Professor Gueorguieva's research interests are in methodological development of mixed effects models for analysis of longitudinal and clustered data. One specific area of her research is development of statistical techniques for simultaneous analysis of repeatedly measured categorical and continuous outcomes. She has applied these methods in risk assessment and for simultaneous analysis of measures of disease severity over time.

Professor Gueorguieva is collaborating extensively with psychiatric researchers on clinical trials and observational studies in alcoholism, substance abuse, depression and anxiety disorders, women's behavioral health, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder. She advocates the use of modern statistical methods such as mixed models and nonparametric alternatives to address the complexity of psychiatric data. Professor Gueorguieva has also been the lead author on studies to develop an improved screening test for very low birth weight and to assess the effect of maternal age on educational disabilities of children.
