The research interests of the laboratory are to develop mathematical, statistical, and computational methods to address scientific questions raised in molecular biology and genetics. The common theme of projects is to integrate diverse types of genomics, proteomics, and phenotype data at different levels (e.g. cellular, tissue, individual, and population) to dissect biological pathways and networks as well as their responses/interactions with environmental factors. Research topics include: haplotype analysis to investigate the patterns and reasons for genetic differences across populations both within and between different geographical areas; various methods for genetic linkage and association studies to identify genetic variants underlying complex traits; design and analysis issues in genomewide association studies; tools to analyze and reconstruct metabolic pathways, regulatory pathways, and signaling pathways through the use of gene expression data, protein-DNA interaction data, protein interaction data, protein complex data, sequence data, chromatin modification data, phenotype data, and other data types.
