Global Health Concentration
Master of Public Health
The Global Health Division (GHD) offers a curriculum that allows students to study global health developments, compare solutions in different parts of the world (developed and developing countries), understand the international organizations working in public health (ranging from the World Health Organization and the World Trade Organization to the International Red Cross and the World Council of Churches) and be well prepared to take up positions in organizations - both public and private, national, bilateral and multilateral - involved in solving the health challenges that lie ahead. Students may develop detailed expertise within their area of interest, while building important skills in public health practice, programming and policy analysis.
A Summer Internship is required and, in recent years, students have interned with organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the World Bank, the Population Council, the Pan American Health Organization, the Planned Parenthood-South Africa, the University of the West Indies, Unilever, Human Rights Watch and some forty other non-governmental, national and international organizations. Graduates of the Global Health Division have found positions around the world in international health, development and advocacy organizations and in both public and private domains.
The curriculum allows students to develop their areas of interest while building skills in public health practice, program development, and policy analysis. Specific in-depth studies are pursued according to the career plans of individual students, i.e., human rights, public-private partnerships, global health policy, and international health promotion.
