Research
Research in the division applies the theoretical frameworks and
methods of political science, political-economy, epidemiology, and social behavioral sciences to study health policies and institutions at the global,
international, national and local levels. Our research generally
adopts a multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral approach to the understanding
of public health thereby casting a broad net over the types of policies
and institutions under analysis. Major areas of faculty research interest and activities include:
- Global governance for health - policy and institutional analyses
of the values, forms and accountability in global health and public - private partnerships for health development;
- HIV/AIDS prevention and policy development;
- Health care financing;
- Health systems reform;
- Structural determinants of HIV prevalence;
- Chronic disease prevention with an emphasis on tobacco, diet, and physical activity;
- Cultural determinants of health behavior;
- Women's health; and
- Disability and international health policy
