Senior Yale-Clinton Foundation Fellow in International Healthcare Management (1 year)
Summary
The Senior Fellow, as part of the Ethiopian Hospital Management Initiative (EHMI), will be assigned to an Ethiopian hospital to collaborate with the Medical Director and hospital management team on a variety of projects to enhance the management capacity among hospital leadership. This position is responsible for supervision and oversight of the Post-Graduate Fellow placed at the same hospital. The Senior Fellow will be a member of hospital’s management team and will work closely with Senior and Post-Graduate Fellows assigned to other hospitals in order to develop and facilitate systems improvements in areas of hospital management throughout Ethiopia.
Senior Fellows will engage hospital managers in a variety of projects to build capacity in change management and organizational leadership. Projects may focus on the following management systems: medical records and patient registration, patient flow (outpatient triage and inpatient patient care flow), pharmacy warehousing and inventory control, human resource management, nursing management, governance and oversight, budgeting, and infection control.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position is responsible for supervision and oversight of the Post-Graduate Fellow placed at the same hospital. The Senior Fellow plans and schedules work, establishes standards, interprets and applieJuly 3, 2008ithin the scope of the position. The Senior Fellow prepares performance appraisals of the Post-Graduate Fellow.
Education and/or Experience
Advanced health/hospital administration degree, with 7-10 years of experience in health care management. Experience in a developing nation is required, with preference given to professional experience in a developing nation. Open to U.S. and non-U.S. citizens.
Language Skills and Reasoning Ability
Ability to effectively communicate information and data in written and verbal form to top management, government officials and the public is required. The ability to interpret and apply instructions in diverse settings, and proven ability to support organizational change and develop management capability of others is required. English proficiency required.
Work/Life Environment
The work environment for the Senior Fellow shall be considered typical of developing countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Senior Fellow may be placed in rural or urban hospital settings. In either setting, living conditions may be modest, but will be made in the best accommodations possible for the entire Fellowship period.
Compensation
Senior Fellows will be paid a reasonable salary commensurate with education and experience. Senior fellows will be provided a competitive benefit package. Upon successful completion of the fellowship, all Fellows will receive a Yale-Clinton Foundation Certificate in International Healthcare Management. |
