China Hand Washing Initiative
As part of a program sponsored by the World Health Organization to improve infection prevention and control practices in the People's Republic of China, a team of Yale researchers conducted site visits to nine hospitals in Beijing, Shanghai, and the province of Ghongzhou. The team conducted in-depth analyses comparing infection control guidelines and monitoring approaches between China and the U.S., successfully identified common issues and incentives for improved hand hygiene practices, and designed and tested an easy-to-use surveillance instrument for hospital hand hygiene that could be used in developing countries.
