Appointments
Many displaced faculty and postdoctoral appointees affected by Hurricane Katrina have contacted Yale University, directly or through friends and colleagues, asking if they can continue their scholarly or research activities at Yale during their displacement. Displaced faculty members or postdoctoral trainees from schools, in the Gulf Coast area may apply to be a Visiting Fellow by filling out an Application for Appointment as Research Affiliate or Visiting Fellow.

Forms should be submitted to:

Yale University

JWGibbs Room 168
New Haven, CT 06520-8365

Access to an office or to laboratory space is left to the discretion of the Chair. Participation in research groups, faculty seminars, or other Yale School of Medicine (YSM) or Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH) activities will be determined by YSM or EPH.

Visiting Fellows will receive:

  • a university identification card
  • an email account
  • library privileges
  • eligibility to join the gym

Visiting Fellows will not receive:

  • compensation
  • Yale fringe benefit plans

Housing
University housing is not available for the fall semester. However, several families and individuals in the New Haven area have offered to make spare room in their homes or have a vacant apartment for displaced students, postdoctoral trainees, and faculty members. All inquiries pertaining to housing should be directed to The Department of Human Resources. Please email all requests for housing assistance to the Department of Human Resources, where it will be "matched" with any offers that seem suitable.
