Yale to Host Locks of Love Hair Drive Organized by EPH Students A Locks of Love Hair Drive at Yale University has been organized by the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH) students, Lisa Bono Corredor, Aizza Hassan, Alison Ibsen, Sarah Merten, Anita Ravi, Sharon Tsui, and Pui Ling Yau. Locks of Love is a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children with long-term medical hair loss. Most of these children suffer from a condition called alopecia areata, an autoimmune disorder that causes the hair follicles to shut off. There is no known cause or cure. Other recipients of hairpieces are suffering long-term hair loss due to severe burns or surviving radiation treatment to the brain stem as a treatment for cancer. There are currently 56 people signed up to donate hair or money. The hair drive will take place on Monday, April 18 from 9am-4pm in the Hall of Graduate Studies. A minimum of 6 inches of hair must be donated. In addition, School of Epidemiology and Public Health Student Organization Rimagé Salon & Spa is giving free haircuts at the Hall of Graduate Studies to those who donate $25 or more. To make an appointment or to find out how to give a monetary donation, email YaleLocksOfLove@gmail.com. EPH is sponsoring the event along with EPHSO, the Yale Graduate and Professional Student Senate, Yale University, Yale Reprographic and Imaging Services, and Rimagé Salon and Spa.
