Heping Zhang, Ph.D., Professor of Biostatistics at the Yale School of Public Health, has been named Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS). Zhang was inducted as Fellow at the IMS Annual Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 2.

Established in 1933, the IMS is an organization which fosters the development and dissemination of theory and applications of statistics and probability. It has 4500 active members internationally. Zhang is one of only 20 members selected for the honor this year. Currently, only 5% of active IMS members have been awarded the honor.

The IMS named Zhang Fellow for his “distinguished contributions to genetic statistics, public health, and medicine” as well as “for seminal contributions to statistic theory and methods and for his exceptional contributions to postdoctoral training and graduate education.”
