Institute of Medicine Selects Paltiel as Member of Committee on Review of Priorities in the National Vaccine Plan A. David Paltiel, Ph.D., Professor and Acting Head of the Division of Health Policy and Administration, has been selected to serve on the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) Committee on Review of Priorities in the National Vaccine Plan. The charge to the twelve-person committee is to evaluate the 1994 "U.S. National Vaccine Plan" and to make recommendations regarding updates of the Plan. The Committee will hold workshops with national expert stakeholders in public health, medicine, and vaccinology to review a publicly available, draft update of the Plan. The Committee will prepare a report with conclusions and recommendations about priority actions within the major components of the updated Plan. The Committee is expected to present its final report in May 2010. Paltiel is an expert in the field of operations research and disease simulation modeling. He conducts cost-effectiveness analyses on a variety of medical technologies and public health activities. Established in 1970 as a component of the National Academy of Sciences, the IOM provides the nation with science-based advice on biomedical science, medicine and health matters. The IOM is a non-profit organization.
