Yale Center for Public Health Preparedness Hosts Workshop on Preparing for the Worst

Yale Center for Public Health Preparedness in collaboration with the state of Connecticut is co-hosting a conference January 24 on preparing for disasters and the psychological aftermath.

The keynote speakers will be Dr. Brian Flynn, associate director of the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress, Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, and former Rear Admiral and Assistant Surgeon General with the United States Public Health Service, and Dr. Linda Degutis, director of the Yale Center for Public Health Preparedness at Yale School of Public Health and president of the American Public Health Association.

“By the end of the workshop participants will be able to identify key areas for collaboration between public health and behavioral health providers on the local and regional level related to all-hazards disaster preparedness,” Degutis said. “They also will be able to recognize key trends in evidence based practice for early intervention in disasters and emergencies and the next steps for collaboration between public health and behavioral health providers through practical guidance and showcasing practice models.”

The state Departments of Public Health, Mental Health and Addiction Services, and Children and Families, as well as the Center for Trauma Response, Recovery and Preparedness, are co-sponsoring the conference.

The workshop is from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Student Center, Alumni Hall, Central Connecticut State University, 1615 Stanley Street.

The workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Participants can register online at www.ct.train.org. Follow the link and search for course ID 1010890.
