Fourth Floor Renovations Nearing Completion

The newly renovated and modernized fourth floor of the Laboratory of Epidemiology and Public Health (LEPH) is nearing completion, and faculty are scheduled to move into their new office space on August 20, in time for the start of the new school year.

Fourth Floor Renovations.

The floor, which will house those faculty members from the divisions of Chronic Disease Epidemiology, Environmental Health Studies and Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases who are not laboratory-based, was totally gutted. The tiny labs formerly used as faculty offices are gone, replaced by 23 new offices, each with a window, that line the perimeter of the building. The central part of the floor features a large conference room, space for administrative support, file storage, smaller conference rooms, and cheery decor.

By the time it is completed, the renovation process, from the planning stages to the August 20 move-in, will have taken just over two years. The project has been overseen by Roberta Marianella, EPH Administrator, who says “another floor of LEPH has been transformed from people-unfriendly space to people-friendly space with the use of light, glass and openness.”

- Story by Christy Gordon, based on interview with Roberta Marianella on June 22, 2004.
