Lichtman Receives Women with Heart Research Award from the American Heart Association Judith Lichtman, Ph.D., M.P.H., Assistant Professor of Epidemiology, has received the Women with Heart Research Award from the American Heart Association (AHA) for her work on her research grant "Prospective Registry for the Predisposing Factors, Care and Outcomes of Myocardial Infarction in Young Women." Coronary heart disease is a leading cause of death among U.S. women aged 55 years or younger. Additionally, young women have a much greater risk than men of similar age of dying following acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Relatively little research has been done on young women with AMI. Lichtman's research will help illuminate the issue by building a surveillance network with two Connecticut hospitals to identify women 55 years or younger who have had an acute myocardial infarction; describing the demographic, psychosocial, behavioral and clinical characteristics of young women with AMI; and assessing disease knowledge and perceived barriers to care among these women. Lichtman was honored at an AHA luncheon on June 23. |
