Khoshnood and Pestana Inducted to the Yale Alumni in Public Health Honor Roll Kaveh Khoshnood, Ph.D.’95, M.P.H.’89 and Edith Pestana, M.P.H.’93 were inducted into the 2007 Alumni Public Service Honor Roll at the Yale School of Public Health’s Alumni Day. The Honor Roll is comprised of alumni who provide significant contributions to public service, leadership in the community, and public health projects. Khoshnood, an assistant professor in public health practice in the Division of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases, was recognized for his worldwide commitment, over the last twenty years, to human rights, infectious disease prevention and the eradication of social stigmas, particularly in the area of HIV/AIDS. He was also praised for his dedication to the education and mentoring of outstanding future alumni in public health. Pestatna was recognized for embodying the basic principle of public health by protecting the health of the public through 17 years of advocacy and implementation of programs supporting environmental justice and civil rights in minority and economically distressed communities. She was also honored for her outstanding volunteer work enhancing the quality of life for underserved populations throughout Connecticut. —Story by Marcie Foley |
