Patrick Charmel, President and CEO of Griffin Hospital and Griffin Health Services Corporation and M.P.H. '83, Appointed to National Advisory Council for Healthcare Research and Quality Patrick Charmel, M.P.H. '83, has been appointed to the 21-member National Advisory Council for Healthcare Research and Quality. The council provides advice and recommendations about national health services research priorities to the Director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and to the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The private sector experts who sit on the panel are appointed by the Secretary of HHS and serve 3 year terms. Charmel is President and Chief Executive Officer of Griffin Hospital and its parent company, Griffin Health Services Corporation, in Derby, Connecticut. He has been associated with Griffin Health Services Corporation since 1979 and has served the company in several capacities. Charmel serves as a member of the Connecticut Department of Public Health Quality in Health Care Advisory Committee, and is on the boards of Qualidigm and the Connecticut Hospital Association. He is co-author of Putting Patients First Designing and Practicing Patient-Centered Care, which was named the 2004 Healthcare Book of the Year by the American College of Healthcare Executives.
