Sindelar Named Inaugural President Elect and Vice President of the American Society of Health Economists Jody L. Sindelar, Ph.D., professor of public health and head of the Health Policy and Administration Division at the Yale School of Public Health, has been named the inaugural President-elect and current Vice President of the newly formed American Society of Health Economists (ASHE). Sindelar is also a founding member of ASHE. ASHE is a professional organization dedicated to promoting excellence in health economics research in the United States and is an affiliate of the International Health Economics Associations (IHEA). As ASHE Vice President, Sindelar will play a central role in planning the inaugural meeting of ASHE, to be held in Madison, Wisconsin, in June 2006. The conference will provide a forum for emerging ideas and empirical results of health economics research. “Health economists analyze many issues that are critical to the health of the public,” said Sindelar. “Economics provides insights that are important in developing solutions to current topics such as disparities in health and health care utilization, rising costs of health care, greater efficiency in the finance and delivery of health care, the health of the young and old, societal harms of addictions, spread of HIV/AIDS, and impacts of mental health problems.” There will be over 400 papers and posters presented in scientific sessions, as well as multiple plenary sessions. Dr. Sindelar is a health economist. Her area of specialty is the economics of smoking, alcohol, and illicit drugs. She is also appointed at the Institution for Social and Policy Studies (ISPS) at Yale and the Center for Nicotine and Tobacco Use Research at Yale (CENTURY). In addition, Dr. Sindelar is a Faculty Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). She is on the Editorial Board of Health Economics and has published in economics, health policy and medical journals. For further information on ASHE, see the website www.healtheconomics.us |
