Schwimmer Receives Excellence in Student Leadership Award from Connecticut Chapter of AmericanCollege of Healthcare Executives Elinor Emy Schwimmer, an M.P.H. '05 in the Health Management Program (HMP), received the Excellence in Student Leadership Award from the Connecticut Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). The award was presented at a May 3 end-of-year reception for students. ACHE is an association of approximately 30,000 health care executives and students. Selection for the award is based on applicants' academic and community leadership, involvement in ACHE and the Connecticut Association of Healthcare Executives, and academic performance. Schwimmer served as HMP's ACHE Student Chapter Co-Chair this year. Her responsibilities have included organizing diverse activities such as hospital tours, career panels with hospital executives and HMP alumni, international health career meetings, alumni mentoring programs and an advisor program for HMP students. As Co-Chair, Schwimmer attended board meetings focused on the development of the ACHE's Connecticut Chapter. I genuinely have enjoyed the role of ACHE Student Chapter Co-Chair in helping to organize activities for the students. I hope that ACHE becomes even more a part of the Yale Health Management Program going forward. I look forward to continuing to support ACHE as I move forward in my career, said Schwimmer. In addition to her activities with ACHE, Schwimmer has volunteered for more than three years with the International Center for Equal Health Care Access (ICEHA) and has worked with the group's president to develop educational materials and programs for clinicians in developing countries. She also designed and helps to maintain ICEHA's website. After graduation, Schwimmer will do a year-long administrative fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Ultimately, she hopes to obtain a hospital leadership position in which she will be able to enhance the quality of care while improving communications and relationships between physicians and hospital management. |
