Brian P. Leaderer, Ph.D. ’75, M.P.H. ’71, to Receive the 2006 Distinguished Service Award Brian P. Leaderer, Ph.D. ’75, M.P.H. ’71, Susan Dwight Bliss Professor of Public Health has been selected by the Association of Yale Alumni in Public Health (AYAPH) to receive the 2006 Alumni Distinguished Service Award. Established in 1999, the award recognizes the contributions and achievements of alumni who have distinguished careers in academic public health and public health practice. Currently serving as the Deputy Dean of the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH), Leaderer is also the acting division head of YSPH’s division of Global Health. Amongst his numerous activities, Leaderer is the Principle Investigator of the Yale Center for Public Health Preparedness, which is a part of a national network of Centers for Public Health Preparedness that are funded through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), works to ensure that frontline public health workers are prepared to respond to public health emergencies including natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and disease outbreaks. He is also Co-director of the Center for Perinatal, Pediatric and Environmental Epidemiology. The Center conducts population-based studies concerning the health and well-being of pregnant women, their newborns and infants as well as researching broader environmental influences on the health of older children and adults, as well as the studies of asthma, including studies in pregnancy, early infancy and later childhood. Leaderer began his career at YSPH as a postdoctoral fellow. He was an Assistant Fellow at the John B. Pierce Laboratory and has held assistant and associate professorship appointments at YSPH as well as the Interim Dean of Public Health position from January 2005 until July 2006. In addition to his work at the School of Public Health, Dr. Leaderer is a professor of Forestry and Environmental Studies. Dr. Leaderer will receive the award at the November 6 AYAPH Reception and Award Ceremony held in conjunction with the 13th annual American Public Health Association meeting in Boston.
