The Chronicle of Higher Education Ranks Yale as the Top Research University in Public Health
The Chronicle of Higher Education has reported Yale #1 in public health in the 2007 Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index. Yale was also ranked fourth in epidemiology and earned first place in bioinformatics. The Index, conducted by Academic Analytics, ranks 7,294 individual doctoral programs in 104 disciplines at 354 institutions. If the institutions have 15 or more Ph.D. programs, they are classified as large research universities. Otherwise, they are categorized as small research universities. The Index reviews the faculty members who are named on a Ph.D. program's Web site. Utilizing information from various pertinent databases, three factors, dependent on the most important variables in a given discipline, are used to examine the productivity of each faculty member. These factors are publications, which may include the number of books and journal articles published as well as citations of journal articles; federal-grant dollars awarded; and honors and awards. The Chronicle of Higher Education is a source of news and information for university faculty members and administrators. The Chronicle’s site features advice columns, job listings, discussion forums, and articles it has published since 1989. For further information, please see http://chronicle.com/stats/productivity/ |
