Students’ International Research Showcased at Symposium
On Wednesday, October 17, the Committee on International Health (CIH) held its Annual Fall Symposium to recognize and display the international research of the medical, nursing, biomedical studies and YSPH students funded by its Downs International Health Student Travel Program. Five of this year's 15 fellows were School of Public Health students. During the poster session, YSPH students presented their work, which was conducted in Ghana, Colombia, Nicaragua, China, and South Africa. Students’ names and research topics are listed below. Emily Mosites, M.P.H. 2008, was one of three students selected to present their research orally at the symposium. Her project was entitled “The Epidemiology of Hookworm Infection in Central Ghana: Reduced Efficacy of Antihelminthic Treament”. The symposium is traditionally dedicated to the memory of Wilbur G. Downs, M.D., M.P.H. Downs was a Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health in the fields of tropical medicine and infectious diseases.
