Ruddle Elected Member of the Connecticut Academy for Science and Engineering

Nancy H. Ruddle, Ph.D., John Rodman Paul Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health in the Division of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases at Yale School of Public Health (YSPH), has been elected to the Connecticut Academy for Science and Engineering.

The Connecticut Academy for Science and Engineering was established in 1976 by Special Act of the Connecticut General Assembly to identify and study issues and technological advances that are or should be a concern to the citizens of Connecticut. It provides unbiased, expert advice on science and technology-related issues to the state government and other Connecticut institutions. It is limited to a 250 person membership, comprised of distinguished scientists and engineers of the state’s academic, industrial, and institutional communities.

Ruddle is the Director of Graduate Studies at YSPH. Her research concentrates on cell trafficking, inflammation, and lymphoid organ development, particularly with regard to the lymphotoxin/tumor necrosis factor (LT/TNF) family. Her group studies these and other cytokines in autoimmune and infectious diseases. The Ruddle Lab researches Type 1 diabetes mellitus, and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), a model for multiple sclerosis.

The Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering will induct Ruddle at the 33rd Annual Meeting and Dinner on May 21.
