CEPH Accreditation Site Visit, October 9-11 Dear Faculty, Students and Staff, In anticipation of next months accreditation site visit, I am writing to provide logistical and general information for your consideration. As most of you know, we are periodically required to conduct a self-study and be reviewed by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), the national organization that accredits schools of public health. Based on the outcome of this review, a school may receive reaccreditation for up to seven years. Our reaccreditation site visit review is scheduled for October 9-11, 2006. If you haven’t done so yet, please mark your calendars now as it is very important for all faculty and staff to be available during that time for meetings with the review team and to provide information, as requested. For those of you who have not experienced it, the self-study is an extensive process involving many task forces and committees and resulting in a comprehensive report of the schools accomplishments since its last review by the Council (1999). The logistics of conducting this study are complex, extending over a period of almost two years. Beginning in the fall of 2004, the school conducted a thorough evaluation of its programs with input from faculty, staff, students and alumni. The final report of this study will soon be available from each division head, most administrative offices, the library, and on the home page of the schools website, http://publichealth.yale.edu/. I have attached an executive summary which provides an overview of the material. However, I recommend that you at least skim a copy of the full report as a means of putting the material in the context of the Councils requirements and standards. The site visit will be conducted over a three-day period by a team of external reviewers who will spend over two full days in meetings with groups of faculty, staff, students, and alumni, as well as with high level University officials and deans from most of Yale’s schools. All faculty and senior staff are expected to be available to meet with the review team, even if you are not listed on the formal review schedule. In addition to the specific sessions listed that will require attendance by many of you, the site visit team may request special meetings with others or additional information at any time during its review. Please make every effort to be available, as needed. You are welcome to contact Elaine Anderson with questions related to the self-study process or the site visit review at 785-6245 or elaine.anderson@yale.edu. She will attend the September faculty meeting to discuss the report and answer any questions you may have on the CEPH visit. As the first public health program and one of the first schools of public health in the nation, we have established and maintained a long tradition of excellence in education, research and scholarship. Reaccreditation is an important affirmation of this tradition. Everyone’s assistance is critical for a successful outcome. I want to thank you in advance for taking time from your busy schedules to participate in the site visit. Paul Cleary |
