Student Involvement
Committee Overseeing Volunteer Services
Students from YSPH, the medical school, the nursing school and the physician
associate program coordinate programs that work collaboratively with public
schools, local agencies, and Yale-New Haven Hospital to provide health
education and health care services to the community.
For additional information,
visit the website of the Committee
Overseeing Volunteer Services.
Community OutReach and Education (Yale Health CORE)
Students, primarily from YSPH, but also from other of Yale’s professional
schools and Graduate School, conduct public health outreach in a rural community
in El Salvador. They partner with a local non-profit organization, La Coordinadora,
to address some of the area’s most pressing public health needs. Past
projects have included designing, administering and analyzing a community
needs assessment survey; providing information and training to community
health advocates; assisting with local reforestation projects; and leading
health education sessions with community adults and schoolchildren. Yale Health
CORE is a member group of Dwight Hall, the center for public service and social
justice at Yale, which serves as the umbrella organization for over 100
student-run volunteer programs with community agencies.
For additional information, visit the Yale
Health CORE website.
Student Association Yale School of Public Health
The Student Association Yale School of Public Health (SAYPH)
is YSPH’s most prominent student
organization. Service organizations and students with unaffiliated service
projects often come to SAYPH for both financial and organizational support.
Graduate and Professional Student Health Advocates Program
Graduate students throughout the University participate in this program.
Activities include conducting on-going prevention activities, sponsoring events
like World AIDS Day and AIDS Awareness Month, and fund-raising for local AIDS
charities.

and Professional Student Health Advocates webpage.
