The major research focus of the SBS Division is directed toward examining the societal, social, psychological and behavioral factors that impact health. Among ongoing research projects:

  • Interventions to reduce HIV/sexually transmitted infections risk among pregnant teenagers
  • Attachment/risk and male partners of teenage mothers
  • Health promotion and disease prevention
  • Group interventions promoting mental health and HIV prevention
  • Psychosocial predictors of survival after myocardial infarction, hip fracture, and stroke
  • Longitudinal studies of successful aging
  • Racial/ethnic disparities
  • Studies utilizing the Connecticut Tumor Registry
  • Pregnancy and preeclampsia in pregnancy
  • Exercise intervention in healthy women and breast cancer survivors
  • Emotional processes that affect health in older adult relationships;
