Areas of Interest: Maria is interested in landscape epidemiology, which studies the link between landscape patterns and epidemiology, particularly of vector-borne diseases. She uses geographic information systems and remote sensing to identify environmental factors associated with the abundance of vectors, prevalence of pathogens and risk to humans. Maria has done previous work on malaria, Lyme disease and West Nile virus.
