Fundamentals of Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication
This toolkit was developed to support a "train the trainer" program for state and local public health practitioners in public health emergency preparedness. It consists of a lecture slide set, a group exercise with slide set, testing materials and trainer support materials that can be used to "train the trainers" and for field delivery of the training program by the trainers. (Last updated 2/13/2006)
When delivered by trainers in the field, this half-day education and training program is designed to provide frontline public health professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to:
- Anticipate and effectively deliver messages to the public during an emergency;
- Contribute to the development of risk communication messages;
- Build credibility and trust between themselves and the public during a crisis;
- Professionally redirect media inquiries and handle hostile situations
