Epidemiology and Field Investigation

This toolkit was developed to support a "train the trainer" program for state and local public health practitioners in public health emergency preparedness. It consists of a lecture slide set, a group exercise with slide set, testing materials and trainer support materials that can be used to "train the trainers" and for field delivery of the training program by the trainers. (Last updated 2/13/2006)

This program is designed as a brief refresher on the fundamentals of epidemiology and field investigations. It can also be used as an introductor training. Topics covered include:

  • Basic principles and methods of epidemiology as they relate to scientific inquiry;
  • Use of epidemiological approaches for problem solving in public health;
  • Basic steps in field investigations;
  • Roles of epidemiologists and environmental health professionals in detection, control, and prevention of community health problems.
