Risk Communication

Disasters and other public health emergencies create many challenges for the public health system. One such challenge is how to communicate information to the public in a way that will not increase fear or concern, while providing timely and accurate content.

Communicating effectively during a crisis takes planning and preparation. It requires an understanding of communications protocols, messaging and how to work with the media. In addition, the ability to manage the flow of information is critical. The Yale Center for Public Health Preparedness is actively engaged in developing and collaborating on education in this area.
