Information for Students

As part our mission, the Yale CPHP works to ensure that the future public health workforce is prepared to respond to public health emergencies including natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and disease outbreaks. To achieve this mission, we engage in several student-focused initiatives including a summer internship program, thesis supervision, and academic course development. There are many areas in preparedness where we have ongoing activities that may interest students. For more information on these, please visit our projects page.

Internships in Public Health Preparedness

This past summer, we funded six public health preparedness internships for second year graduate students in public health. Local public health agencies in Connecticut and Rhode Island submitted proposals for a wide variety of community-based preparedness projects. Interns were matched to projects based on their interests and experience. Through the course of the internship, students gained practice experience and local health agencies obtained assistance with preparedness planning and education activities needed by their communities. We are funding a similar initiative in the summer of 2008. We also hire students to work at the YCPHP throughout the academic year. For more information on the summer internship program and current student job opportunities, please visit the internship page.

Student Thesis Projects

Faculty from the Yale CPHP have supervised several thesis projects completed by students in the Master of Public Health Program at the Yale School of Public Health. Topics covered range from the development of disaster victim databases, to the psychological responses of children in times of terror. For more information on research opportunities, please contact (insert contact). For a listing of recent student theses related to preparedness, please visit the thesis page
