School of Public Health: Global Health Leadership Initiative

Amanda L. Brewster is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Health Policy and Management at Yale School of Public Health. Her research examines how management and inter-organizational relationships influence the performance of health care organizations. Her recent work focuses on identifying effective strategies for health care and social services to work together to address both medical and social determinants of health. She is currently leading a study that compares collaboration between health care and social services organizations in U.S. communities with higher and lower levels of avoidable health care utilization and costs for older adults, using both qualitative and quantitative methods. In another project she is drawing on unique, nationwide survey data to examine partnerships between Area Agencies on Aging, health care organizations, and other social services for older adults.

In addition to her research on relationships between health care and social services organizations, she also studies quality improvement and organizational learning in health care organizations. This work has included research on hospital efforts to reduce readmissions and mortality from acute myocardial infarction.
