New Expectations

As an integrated community of clinicians and investigators building on the foundation set by William Harvey, Yale Cardiovascular Medicine aims through innovative scholarship and our commitment to training future leaders to provide world-class, patient-centered care.

At Yale, we are fueled by our faculty’s dynamic clinical, health services, translational, and biological research that is leading to amazing changes in cardiovascular care delivery. My objective is to push that momentum further in meeting our mission to patients, families, colleagues, and collaborators in Connecticut and across the nation. De Motu Cordis surveys not only the immense potential of our faculty’s efforts but highlights how we incorporate our sense of inquiry and our comprehensive expertise to the bedside and clinic today.

I’m privileged to lead a diverse and impressive team working within the superb environment of Yale University and Yale New Haven Health. Every day our clinicians utilize their talents to provide exceptional and compassionate care. They are critical thinkers who apply what they learn to each individual patient with the additional goal of expanding the universe of knowledge that will impact patients and families globally.

This inaugural issue is dedicated to the memory of Robert Ardesia, MD, who was a practicing physician at Yale New Haven Hospital Saint Raphael Campus for decades and in a sometimes boisterous but always caring manner made the lives of each patient and staff he worked with better. I hope this edition—which touches on new discoveries in vascular biology and new amyloidosis therapies among other themes—will spark further inquiries and lead to opportunities for greater collaboration.
