All MS Biostatistics students will be required to take a Professional Skills Series (Dates and times to be announced).

Students wishing to complete a thesis may do so. Students who wish to complete a thesis should enroll in BIS 650b (1 course credit). Students that complete a thesis must present their research in a public seminar in order graduate. *Students entering the program with an MPH or relevant graduate degree may be exempt from this requirement.

Master's Thesis

In the second year of the MS in the Biostatistics track, the student can opt to execute a program of independent research under the direction of a faculty member. This project will usually fall into one of these main areas: development of a new statistical theory or methodology, a computer-based simulation study to illustrate properties of an existing method, or the analysis of a real dataset.

If the student chooses to submit a thesis, they will be required to submit a written thesis and make an oral presentation of the results in order to graduate. The thesis is written under the supervision of a BIS faculty member.
