Doctor of Philosophy

Doctoral students in biostatistics receive advanced training in statistical modeling, inference and computation in order to meet the challenges of modern biomedical science. Students benefit from direct engagement with empirical researchers in public health, medicine, genomics, evolutionary science and many other disciplines. A wide range of course options and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration allow students to build a training and research program suited to their interests. Graduates of the program go on to positions at major research universities, government agencies, biotechnology/pharmaceutical companies and the technology industry.
Applicants to the PhD program should have a basic background in biology and a strong record in mathematics, including coursework in advanced calculus, linear algebra and probability. Prospective PhD applicants are strongly encouraged to contact faculty with whom they may be interested in working.
