Vivian Nguyen - New York, New York

New York, NY
Here I am in next to the Manatt welcome area, which is the first thing you see when you get off the 23rd floor in Times Square Tower.

Career goal:

Health care management consulting

Internship outline:

I was a summer analyst at Manatt Health, which is a fully integrated, multidisciplinary legal, regulatory, advocacy and strategic business advisory healthcare practice. I worked on multiple projects that furthered Manatt’s mission to reinvent healthcare, including payment and delivery system transformation, health IT strategy, health reform implementation, Medicaid expansion, redesign and innovation, corporate governance and restructuring, and market access, coverage and reimbursement.

Value of experience:

Working on multidisciplinary teams allowed me to develop as a team member while also refining my organizational and client-facing skills. Working with diverse clients enhanced my abilities to synthesize information in creative ways that resonated with a variety of audiences. Exposure to different management and leadership styles challenged me to “manage up” while also taking the lead on implementing work plans and producing deliverables on time and within budget.

Best moment/experience:

Being able to learn from the eight summer analysts at Manatt Health, five of whom were from Yale School of Management and Yale School of Public Health! Even though we were all spread across three different offices – New York, D.C. and San Francisco – we met weekly to provide updates and share key experiences from our respective projects.
