MPH in Health Care Management

The HCM curriculum is unique in that it combines courses at the Yale School of Management (SOM) with courses at the School of Public Health. The longstanding, unique partnership between YSPH and SOM provides exemplary management education and ensures that our students are exposed to both schools. The HCM program is but one demonstration of Yale’s commitment to collaboration between schools and flexibility in building a course of study to meet your individual aspirations.

What are the program's areas of expertise?

  • Organizational behavior and leadership
  • Business economics and finance
  • Quality improvement and implementation science
  • Operations and information management
  • Cost-effectivess analyses
  • Hospital and integrated delivery system administration
  • Life sciences industries

What makes us different?

  • The close integration of our program, between YSPH and a top 10 ranked business school such as SOM, is not something that any other MPH program in the United States can offer.
  • Our curriculum is curated each year in a joint effort between SOM and YSPH to ensure that our students are able to access the best learning opportunities at both schools. Students will take courses such as Accounting, Negotiations, Competitive Strategy, and Managing Marketing, at SOM, with experienced Professors in Management, and take foundational courses in Health Policy, Finance and Management from our very own Professor Howard Forman.
  • Our relationship with SOM allows our students to access over 50 clubs and organizations, internship and job opportunities featured on SOM’s job portal as well as on-campus recruitment visits, SOM’s state of the art facilities and a weekly networking happy hour (closing bell). Access to services at both schools allow our students to explore opportunities that suit their diverse career interests, whether that might be healthcare consulting, global health, the non-profit sector, hospital administration, or social entrepreneurship, to name just a few.
  • The program is small enough that students get 1:1 access to dedicated HCM faculty often at a moments’ notice, providing them unparalleled support.
  • The Colloquium in Healthcare Leadership brings prominent leaders from public, private, and nonprofit healthcare organizations to campus for candid discussions. In addition to a unique opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of the major trends in healthcare as well as the challenges of being a leader in this space, students choose two dinners to attend with our speakers.
  • Our job placements are incredibly impressive and starting salaries are very competitive. A number of firms visit campus just to recruit within our small cohort. See more on our Career Management Center page.
  • Each year our students, in a joint effort with colleagues from SOM and the schools of medicine and nursing, lead one of the best Healthcare Conferences on offer in the United States. The 2020 conference features an exclusive event with 19th US Surgeon General, and treasured alumnus, Dr. Vivek H. Murthy.
