The Pan American Health Organization operates as the regional headquarters for North and South America for the World Health Organization. It represents 52 member countries and territories. PAHO also works as the specialized health agency of the Inter-American System.

I worked in the Health Emergencies department on the Health Information Management Team. We met weekly in the Emergency Operations Center to go over the work that was being conducted by members of the team as well as updates on any emergencies that were occurring.

I spent my time at PAHO working on a project analyzing data regarding foodborne disease outbreaks in the Americas. I learned so much about creating datasets to analyze and working with mapping software to visualize regions impacted by outbreaks.

I was able to sit in on a variety of meetings at the PAHO headquarters during the summer. PAHO hosted a number of talks with experts from around the world. Sitting in on these meetings allowed me to learn more about how information is shared among various government agencies.

While living in D.C. this summer I was able to explore so much of what the city has to offer. I went on frequent bike rides throughout the D.C. area and even around some of the national monuments.

International WELL Building Institute, NY, NY

Just this May the new and improved WELL v2 pilot standard was launched! This new standard has been designed to be inherently flexible, which means it ensures that a WELL certification can be achieved more seamlessly around the world.
