Hydraulic Fracturing

Unconventional oil and gas development (“hydraulic fracturing”) is a complex, multi-phase process of extracting oil and natural gas. Over 1000 chemicals have been linked to the fluids and wastewater used in this industrial process. Public health concerns include water pollution, air pollution, noise pollution, increased traffic, and stress. Our research is focused on identifying whether proximity to oil and gas activities is linked to increased chemical exposures or health problems.
