Qualifying Exams

Students will take three exams. Each qualifying exam will be graded by two faculty members.

  1. HPM exam will be written by HPM faculty and will draw on HPM courses. Students should use selection of HPM courses taken to address the exam questions using their own preparation, which may differ based what courses each has taken.
  2. Methods exam will be written to reflect the sequence of methods classes taken by the student (e.g., BIS, PLSC, SOC). The BIS exam is written by the BIS faculty. The PLSC exam is written by PLSC faculty. The SOC exam is written together by SOC and HPM faculty.
  3. Area of depth exam will be written by HPM faculty with expertise in that area and should reflect the four courses taken in that area of depth.
