PLM aims to use Coca-Cola's supply chain and logistics expertise to get medicines to hard-to-reach communities.
"If a bottle of Coke can be found in rural communities across Africa, why can't we find medicines and supplies in the same places?" This question is the driving force behind Project Last Mile (PLM), which uses The Coca-Cola Company's global logistics, supply chain and marketing expertise to strengthen health systems across Africa. PLM brings together The Coca-Cola Company, the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation, USAID, the Global Fund, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with the goal of reaching 10 countries by 2020 and establishing a new model for effective private sector partnership toward achievement of global health targets. GHLI serves as the monitoring and evaluation partner for PLM, using a longitudinal, mixed-methods design to measure program impact over time and identify lessons learned along the way.
