The Yale School of Public Health’s new online executive master’s degree in public health program (Executive MPH) has received a significant boost with a $600,000 gift.
Robert Rosenkranz ’62, philanthropist and chairman of Delphi Financial, donated to the school to augment the online program, which officially gets underway this summer. The gift will be used to support the development of the program’s online courses, including working with faculty to develop the content, filming the course, and post-production editing. This new gift intention is part of Mr. Rosenkranz’s $1.6 million commitment for online education at Yale University.
“The gift allows YSPH to move ahead expeditiously with further course creation,” said Martin Klein, Ph.D., M.P.H. ’86, director of the program. “It will also allow the school to use more of the revenue it generates to support its vital mission: to provide leadership to protect and improve the health of the public. We are very grateful to Mr. Rosenkranz for his inspired support.”
Rosenkranz said he was motivated to make the gift because of the power and potential of online education and the need for a well-trained public health workforce, as the current pandemic has made clear to everyone.
“This is an investment in the future,” Rosenkranz said. “The need could not be greater and the Yale School of Public Health has created the program to help meet this need. I am excited about its potential.”

The Executive MPH, announced in September, aligns with the vision of YSPH Dean Sten H. Vermund, M.D., Ph.D., and stresses the importance of public health education and the transformational power of online education. This innovative program blends comprehensive online education with in-person management and leadership training on the Yale campus, creating a unique and powerful educational experience. It encompasses all of the strengths that define the school’s academic experience – faculty excellence, individualized attention, curricular innovation and interdisciplinary approaches to public health challenges.
Most of the coursework is to be completed remotely, with three five-day, in-person, intensive sessions on the Yale campus over two years.
The Executive MPH will be taught by top faculty from YSPH and elsewhere. Employing state-of-the-art tools and technology, the program provides working health professionals with a broad foundation in public health, specialized instruction in areas critical to health promotion and disease prevention, and a year-long integrative capstone experience that enables students to apply what they have learned to a real-world public health problem. It offers four tracks: Health Informatics, Environmental Health Sciences, Applied Analytical Methods and Epidemiology, and Critical Topics in Public Health. Every student in the program will receive a $10,000 scholarship to help offset costs. More information about tuition and financial aid can found on the school’s financial aid website.
