Respiratory Tract Infections
Respiratory tract infections are a major cause of disease and death globally. Research in the Department of the Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases includes studies on the impacts of vaccines against bacteria and viruses that cause pneumonia, laboratory and population studies of the ecology of bacteria in the respiratory tract (including microbiome studies), mathematical and statistical modeling of the effects of interventions, environmental studies and spatial modeling of the risk for legionnaire's disease, and surveillance for flu and other respiratory pathogens.
