A Meeting in Dubai, and a Donation to the School

H. Husnu Okvuran, '94 BA

H. Husnu Okvuran '94 BA attributes his decision to donate to the Yale School of Public Health in part to a meeting he had in Dubai with a former faculty member.

A 1994 Yale graduate and a Turkish national, Okvuran met Elizabeth H. Bradley, formerly a professor in the department of Health Policy and Administration and now President of Vassar College. They discussed public health issues and initiatives underway at YSPH.

“She [Betsy] was pretty instrumental,” said Okvuran. “But I also think it’s a good opportunity. It’s a big challenge to everybody to bring up the standards of health. It’s something that is in desperate demand.”

Okvuran’s donation provides support for scholarships and internships, with a preference for students from Turkey or the Middle East and those studying at the Jackson School of Public Affairs.Okvuran received financial assistance while at Yale and believes it is tremendously important.

“I believe Yale’s focus on global public health issues and in particular on financial aid for international students are very important. My family and I are very excited to be able to contribute these causes” he said.
