Transforming research into practice is critical to making an impact on public health. EMD is the academic home for the Yale Emerging Infections Program, a unique partnership between Yale, the Connecticut Department of Public Health, and the CDC. Students and faculty contribute to on-the-ground public health surveillance activities in New Haven and around Connecticut on foodborne illnesses, COVID-19, influenza, human papillomavirus, legionellosis, and others. Further afield, faculty in the department are focused on how to implement public health interventions in the field most effectively. Implementation science takes a holistic approach to ensure that new public health approaches are effectively used in the community.
