Alumni Chat with Laura Skrip (PhD '17)

We are pleased to invite you to an Alumni Chat with Laura Skrip on Thursday, November 12th at 12:00 pm (EST).

Laura will speak briefly about her experiences at YSPH, her career and will be available to answer your questions.

Laura Skrip completed her MPH (’13) in Biostatistics and PhD in Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases (’17) at the Yale School of Public Health. She is a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the Institute for Disease Modeling within the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and in that role, she implements behavior-epidemiologic transmission models with a focus on emerging infectious diseases in humanitarian settings. She works extensively with social scientists, clinicians, basic science researchers, and community members from disease-affected areas to inform mathematical models for quantifying the potential impact of behavior-focused tools and approaches, including risk communication and community engagement. During the 2014-2015 Ebola outbreak in West Africa, Laura worked with local response leadership to develop and pilot new tools for data collection and dissemination in Montserrado County, Liberia. She subsequently moved to Liberia to serve in a technical assistance and capacity-building role with the newly established National Public Health Institute of Liberia. In that position, Laura worked with a Liberian team on the development of and approval processes for new public health programs at the University of Liberia. Laura remains involved at the University of Liberia School of Public Health as an Instructor of Biostatistics.
